This is probably one of the questions I get asked the most. Maybe you've spent weeks scrolling through Pinterest. Everything looks great, but when you go to recreate the looks, it's just not working!
Here are a few tricks to making your family portraits look frame-worthy:
1. Aim for coordinating outfits, not matching! What does that mean? Don't dress exactly alike! Pick one or two main colours and a couple neutrals, and have some family members wear one, and some the other. If Dad is wearing a red sweater, Mom could have on a flowered dress that has some red in it, for example.
2. Textures, textures, textures! Big chunky sweaters, flowing long dresses, layered jackets and scarves. Textures add visual interest and photograph beautifully.
3. Stay away from graphic Ts. Also avoid prints or stripes smaller than a dime; they can create weird affects in camera. And if you can, wear anything but running shoes :) Even bare feet are better!
4. And finally, the most important thing is that you wear something that flatters the parts of you that you love the most and that make you feel confident! If you're uncomfortable when you look in the mirror, it's probably not the best outfit choice for you. When you feel good you'll be more relaxed and will love your portraits that much more!
