My Quinoa Obsession

So I realize I’m a few years late with this, and I should really be obsessed with kale right now (or is that already passé too?), but I rediscovered quinoa. I say “rediscovered” because I actually tried it a few years ago while we were in Edmonton, and I was not a fan. It was gross, the texture was weird, it tasted bitter, etc. In hindsight I probably bought quinoa that needed to be rinsed first and didn’t know it, or else I bought couscous. My new obsession started with Pinterest (of course). I saw a quinoa greek salad that looked amazing and went to the store right away to buy some of the Peruvian super food.

Travel Tuesdays | Longsheng, China

In August 2009, while our Korean students were on their summer break, Rob and I went on a 3+ week trip to China and Japan. There was a point in my life where I really had no interest in seeing Asia. I wanted to see Europe! Then we moved to Korea and I was pretty upset by the end of our year there that we’d only been able to travel to Thailand. Having lived on the continent for a year made us really want to see more of it, and was the biggest influence in our deciding to go back to Korea for another year and a half. Our summer vacation started in China. It’s a huge country, and I’ll freely admit I’m infatuated.

Travel Tuesdays | Marseille, France

Traveling is a desire that developed around my mid-teens. All of a sudden there was a lot to see and I wanted to see it! I moved away from home to go to university, and for four years Charlottetown, PEI was my home. I loved it. The endless beaches, the wind rippling through fields of long grass, imposing lighthouses guarding the red earthed coastline, winter waves frozen stiff into walls of ice, and everywhere the hint of salt water. I couldn’t ask for a better place to spend that part of my life, especially because that’s where I met my future husband! I’m returning to the gentle Island this summer and I’m so excited.

The Website Diaries

I am far from technically gifted. For a while I was convinced that computers internally combusted in my presence. I like to think that I’ve gotten past that point (sort of?).

However… I was pretty sure that this new website was going to be the death of me.

I had this idea in my head of what I wanted my website to look like. I can be pretty picky about things like that, and I’m the type of person who doesn’t want to put my name on something unless it’s perfect. Which is probably not great for starting up a business, but that’s another blog post. So there I was with grand illusions of what this website was going to look like.

Winter Walks

The best thing about the weekend for me is being able to go on a leisurely morning walk with Rob and Meadow. Our puppy is a labrador, and doesn’t seem at all phased by cold — even when it’s -35. That being said, if the mercury drops that low we either don’t walk her, or only take her out for 15-20 minutes. She always looks so sad when we turn for home after those shortened romps!

But Saturday morning it was a balmy -12 and the snowstorm hadn’t yet started. At 8am we headed out for our usual walking place. On either side of the train tracks there is an unofficial off-leash area about 2km long.
