About a year ago our super fantastic neighbour put her house up for sale. She was moving into a custom-built home just outside of Ottawa and were a little upset. Doesn’t everyone hate the prospect of losing an awesome neighbour? It’s bad enough that you’ll miss them, but who knows what the new neighbours will be like? Well, our ex-neighbour was SO GREAT that she intentionally sold the house to a family that she thought we’d hit it off with. And she was right!
Khadija and Stephane are so, so friendly. They’re the walk-extra-homemade-soup-to-your-house-because-they-made-too-much kind of people. Who doesn’t love that? We end up chatting in our shared driveway for way too long, and we’ve even had them over for dinner during patio season. They were excited to move to Barrhaven, and that was a real win for the neighbourhood because they’re both incredibly community minded. Khadija would spend every spare hour she had volunteering. She’s very active in the West Barrhaven Community Association, and their events, and I’m guessing the two of them can’t go anywhere without saying hello to a ton of people. Their little girl Sadia is so adorable, and greet people with giant eyes. She also gives me some major hair envy.
We were originally going to do their session in the summer. Sadia has an early bedtime, though, so we waited until September when the sun starts setting a little early. Also, this season was so bad for mosquitoes that waiting until (slightly) cooler weather was a must! We went out to Manotick for their portrait session one evening when the sun was out, and they brought along Marg, their pup. She’s a quiet senior greyhound who retired quite a while ago from racing and now mostly likes to nap. Which she did during the portrait session from time to time!
Here are a few images from their late summer family photo session. Khadija and Stephane, thanks for being awesome neighbours :)
