Last month I had the honour of photographing a close friend’s wedding in Jasper, Alberta. Some photographers get nervous photographing weddings for people they know. There’s a lot of pressure on a wedding day, and that desire to capture the day perfectly is only augmented when it’s for loved ones! But I couldn’t think of a better way to experience Sheilagh and Daniel’s big day than from my favourite vantage point — behind the lens.
For Sheilagh and Daniel, it was love at first sight. They planned a whirlwind wedding that was colourful, whimsical, outdoors, and unbound by structure, which describes the both of them perfectly. From do-it-yourself flower arrangements to vintage accents, this wedding was full of originality and feeling. Not only did they get married on Pyramid Lake Island in Jasper National Park, but their reception was at a horse ranch! Their guests loved watching and patting the horses at the Jasper Park Riding Stables, especially the kids (and dogs!) in attendance.
Watching the two of them throughout the day, it was obviously that they’re very much in love. Their day was surrounded by friends and family who came from afar to wish Dan and Sheilagh a lifetime of happiness as they grow and learn about each other together.
