Karen and Ben are getting married this September and they wanted a location that was a little more “country” for their summer engagement portraits in Ottawa or the surrounding area. They’re getting married at the Mill Street Brew Pub downtown, so having an engagement session somewhere a little more rustic is a nice contrast.
Karen and I met when I photographed her sister’s wedding a few years ago! I’m so honoured that she and her fiance Ben hired me for their big day as well. I love seeing families over the years and capturing milestones in their lives.
We decided to go to Pinhey’s Point, and booked the sessions weeks out, hoping for good weather! Usually we make sure to have a backup date for portraits, but thankfully we didn’t need to use it. Although the evening was hot, the skies were clean and we had a beautiful sunset.
The properly was almost empty. Pinhey’s Point has great old barns, manicured gardens, and the water. I love photographing in locations that have lots of areas to choose from. Couples get a ton of variety in their final gallery, especially if they do an outfit change halfway through. Karen and Ben started with their “fancy” outfits and then changed into casual ones and it worked out great.
Karen is simply stunning and has the best smile. She showed up with a new haircut and it suited her so well! I get to know couples when we first meet, but I always learn more during their engagement sessions. This time, I learned Karen is allergic to bees! How? One stung me a couple times taking the ring shots. I have to admit I was a little nervous going into fields after that! She was so calm, though, and Ben is a cool cucumber as well. They were happy to explore different areas and it was a such a pleasure photographing them.
Ben and Karen, I hope you love these images as much as I do. I’m really looking forward to your wedding day!
