Allison and Tyler are country kids, so a summer farm wedding in their hometown of Finch, Ontario, was natural fit. I loved getting to know these two during their engagement session among the cherry blossoms in Ottawa. They were just as easy going and amazing on their wedding day! Allison put a ton of thought into all of the wedding decor. It took a small army of bridesmaids, friends, and family to make it all happen. Their wedding day had plenty of nods to farm life. Quilts covered the hay bales during the ceremony, the seating chart was an antique door, and they strategically placed old farm equipment out for wedding party photos.
The girls got ready at Allison’s family’s farm, and the guys suited up just down the road at Tyler and Allison’s new house! These two moved into a new home and got married in the same week. Anyone who has done either of those things knows how crazy that must have been, but they pulled it off! The ceremony was outside under the shade of giant maples, and there was a giant tent for cocktail hour right on the property. The reception took place at Finch Community Centre. They transformed the hall with market lights, lace pennants, and plenty of burlap and wheat.
We’d decided beforehand to sneak away from the reception while guests were eating for some golden hour portraits. I’m so glad we did: the light was perfect! Since the guests were having fun and eating the pressure was off for the new bride and groom, who practiced their first dance in the sunset.
I get asked a lot what it’s like to listen to speeches at wedding as the photographer. The truth is, I love it. I learn so much about not only the bride and groom, but their families. And these families like to laugh. A lot! They poked fun of each other, brought up old memories, and made each other cry.
