The Riley Family A First Birthday Session in Ottawa South

Riley Family Portraits with Ottawa Photographer 10

The Rileys contacted me in April wanting to do a first birthday portrait session with their daughter, Lia. I love it when parents want to be part of images with their children when they’re growing up. In between the hundreds of pictures that my mom took of me as a kid, it’s the ones that have her and my dad in them that mean the most to me. And they’re few and far between!

The Kroeger Family A Christmas Tree Farm Portrait Session

The Kroegers have been on the blog a few times now, and it’s always good to see them again! Little Andy has gotten way taller since I saw him in the summer, and soon he’ll have a little sister to play with! This family is more than a little bit country, and they went all out for their Christmas tree day by wearing matching red plaid. Canadians get teased quite a bit by Americans for this particular fashion selection, and while I know we can’t lump all Canadians into one, I think a lot of us know at least one older family member who had a flannel or fleece plaid jacket at one point. I’m pretty certain every man in my family has one still, and because of that they will always be nostalgic for me.

The Smith Family A Christmas Tree Portrait Session

It’s hard to believe that almost two years ago I photographed the littlest Smith shortly after her arrival into the world. Although I follow along with her exploits from time to time on Facebook, I haven’t seen her (or the rest of the Smith family) too often since then! So it was great to meet up with them all at Thomas Christmas Tree Farm in North Gower last weekend. We squeaked this session in right before the snow hit Ottawa, but it was still pretty chilly in the morning! Most Canadians know the challenge of trying to dress nicely in cold weather… and most of us give up and just wear whatever we need to to keep our extremities from freezing and falling off.

The Chapman Family A Christmas Tree Portrait Session

On Sunday I met a group of three families at Thomas Christmas Tree Farm in North Gower. Believe it or not, last year was the first year I’d ever had a real Christmas tree in my house, and it was purchased from a grocery store. So this was a whole new experience for me, and I’ve got to say, it was a lot of fun! I can definitely see how families make this a tradition every year. The tree farm had an outdoor fire going, hot chocolate and cookies, play areas for kids, and — of course — rows and rows of trees. The smell was addictive!
