There’s something so special about being a newborn photographer. I spend weeks looking forward to meeting this little person who I have no relation to, and then the day comes when I get to hold him or her. Mom and Dad are normally exhausted, and I think there is this nervousness that their new baby isn’t going to sleep soundly, or will pee on me, or somehow won’t be photogenic. But babies will do as babies do, and I get that. There’s no pressure. Babies are perfect just as they are. Some sleep right away, others take some coaxing. Some love to be swaddled, others prefer to be free. I do my best to make a comforting environment for them, and to go with the flow. It doesn’t take too long for mom and dad to relax — and maybe nap! — while I photograph the newest member of their family.
