Nova Scotia Vacation Part 2 | Beaches and Camping

I didn’t take as many photos in the last week of our trip. Mostly because of a lack of space. You see, I forgot one 16GB memory card at work and I only have two. We brought Rob’s laptop and my external drive, plus a friend’s external drive. So, no problem, right? WRONG. Very wrong. Problem #1: Turns out Rob’s laptop only had 8GB of space left on it. Can you believe that? Time to clear out the computer! Problem #2: Turns out my hard drive had even less space on it! How is that possible??! Problem #3: Turns out that my friend’s brand new terabyte hard drive was safety locked for editing (or so I thought). Are you kidding me?!

Travel Tuesdays | Bruges and Brussels, Belgium

The undeniably fall weather this weekend put me in the mood to look for some travel pictures in keeping with the season. We arrived in Bruges in mid-November and it was the first place cold enough for me to want warmer clothing. We started our trip in Southern Spain in August and needed clothing for 45 degrees, and our trip ended at the beginning of December in Scandinavia and London. Packing for three seasons into one backpack was challenging! Once we hit Bruges I threw out my running shoes, which were in tatters. I bought a pair of fake Uggs. Not only were the comfortable, they were the cheapest thing I could find at 50 euros. They were also terrible.

Our Prince Edward Island Vacation

Buckle up! This is gonna be a long post since I didn’t want to break our 7-day trip to PEI up into two parts. It’s also full of Meadow because — let’s face it — she was one of the main reasons why we were so excited to come back. The pup was spoiled with tons of trips to the beach. So much to smell! So much to dig! So much sand to roll in! As you’ll see from the photos, the weather wasn’t so great. In fact, some days I wasn’t able to take my camera out at all, and some of these pictures were actually shot in the rain. But moody skies bring out vivid colours (and keep people indoors), so all-in-all I think it was a win!

Travel Tuesdays | Kyoto, Japan

Rob and I spent 9 days in Japan in the summer of 2009. It was expensive. It was hot. It was exhilarating and it was beautiful. We flew in to the Tokyo airport on a double-decker plane arriving from Beijing. We were thumb-printed, photographed, and scanned for H1N1. Originally we’d planned to spend our time solely in Tokyo, with a short break to climb Mount Fuji; travel in Japan is pricey. But we decided to splurge and bought tickets on the Shinkansen (the bullet train) to Kyoto for about $150. After all, how many more times in our lives would we be in Japan? Looking back at our travels, there’s not one splurge we made that I’ve ever regretted.

Nova Scotia Vacation Part 1 | Exploring Malagash and Tatamagouche

I’d been looking forward to our August vacation since Christmas. And I’d been looking forward to going back to the Maritimes for the last seven years. Somehow seven years have gone by since I graduated from UPEI, and May 2007 was the last time I was in the East Coast. I couldn’t wait to get back, and this vacation was all I had hoped it would be: two and a half weeks of salt air, cool breezes, great company, long beaches, and a slower pace of life. We started our trip with a few days visiting Rob’s family in Malagash, Nova Scotia. They live on several acres with access to the beach, and we stayed in a guest cabin (a converted stand-alone garage). The first batch of vacation photos chronicles our first few lazy days there, just poking around the property and exploring nearby Tatamagouche.
