Erica and Kyle’s Code’s Mill Wedding in Perth was the stuff that New Year’s Eve dreams are made of! I’ve never attended a wedding on New Years Eve as a guest, but now I think it might be the perfect way to celebrate. Their day was glamorous and chic and filled with people who love them, and it was such an honour to watch these two tie the knot!
I’d met Erica on a few occasions photographing some of her friends’ weddings, but the first time I really got to see her and Kyle together was during their engagement portrait session last summer. That’s when I first learned of Erica’s love of black, and Kyle’s love of cars! While most people are a little camera shy, these two leaned into each other during their session and it was obvious how comfortable they are around each other. I loved learning more about the early days of their relationship during the speeches at the reception, and how loved both of them are by their family and friends.
The day started at the Best Western in Perth where both the bride and groom got ready in separate suites. The proximity allowed me to go back and forth and capture them both getting ready for the big day. While you would think a snowstorm would be the thing to worry about at the end of December, surprisingly it was some unrelenting rain we had to work around.
Everyone in their wedding party were great about the conditions, though. We had some tight quarters to take group portraits in, and umbrellas were necessary, but this bunch took it all in stride. They helped keep Erica’s dress dry and carted around umbrellas with smiles on their faces. And you’d never know from the sparkler photos that everyone was getting a little wet!
Since the sun sets so early in the winter, Kyle and Erica opted for a first look before their ceremony. But that didn’t stop Kyle from experiencing all the emotion of the day as Erica walked towards him down the aisle during their ceremony in her perfect, sparkly, New Years Eve wedding dress. The room was full of people there to witness and celebrate their marriage, and then it was time to party!
Erica and Kyle, thank you so much for having me document your wedding day. I hope you love the images and cherish the memories you made that night for many years to come!
