Emi and Zach’s downtown Ottawa engagement portraits are not only stunning, they’re a nod to how they first met. I love it when couples pick somewhere meaningful to them to take engagement pictures. When Emi and Zach told me they’d met working as parliamentary tour guides, I melted. How Hallmark movie is that?! A downtown location for their portraits was perfect, and it’s been a long time since I did some – check out this blog post from fall 2018!
We timed the session for spring, and the weather was wonderful. The Canadian tulip festival was still going strong thanks to favourable temperatures, dousing the city with some extra colour. We began their portraits at Parliament Hill, which has been under construction for years now but still manages to look impressive. From there, we wandered over to Major’s Hill Park above the Rideau Canal.
I actually met Emi years ago when we were both students and working at Chapters on Rideau Street! We met again last summer when I photographed her friend Juliet’s wedding last summer where she was a bridesmaid, and I got to meet Zach at the reception. These days, Emi is in her residency as a family physician. When I remarked how much work that would be, she was quick to point out the toll it takes on Zach, too, and how she couldn’t be doing it without him.
It’s clear that these two love to be around each other and make each other laugh. They are so comfortable together, and kindness, calm and fun radiate from them both!
Emi and Zach, I hope you like your engagement portraits. I’m looking forward to seeing you both again at your wedding next year!
