What happens when the forecast for your wedding predicts uninterrupted rain for 12 hours? You buy clear umbrellas and be thankful that your parents have a beautiful porch! Sarah and Brandon planned a romantic outdoor summer wedding in Cornwall, Ontario. The ceremony took place at Sarah’s parents house. Their property was a wedding dream, with white flowers and luscious ferns everywhere. And the rain didn’t stop it from being a magical day!
I first met Sarah when she was a bridesmaid in her friend Allison’s farm wedding five years ago. She was so sweet, and said that one day when she gets married she wanted me to be there (hello, super flattering!). Five years later she emailed me tell me that she was engaged to Brandon! Her excitement was through the roof! And when I met Brandon during their engagement portraits session, I could see he felt the same way. They made each other laugh the whole time, and the way they look at each other makes you want to sigh with happiness.
Clearly, I wasn’t alone in noticing. The speeches on their wedding day were filled with stories of their meet cute (he accidentally hit her with a baseball bat during a game) and the freefall into love that happened soon afterwards. Brandon and Sarah were surrounded by family and friends who love them as they exchanged their vows under a tent with the rain pouring above, and it was perfect. Their wedding party was the BEST hype team. The guys jokingly did a first look with Brandon, and it turned into an awesome celebration of them congratulating their friend. And Sarah’s bridesmaids handled the day like the seasoned pros that they are, taking the rain in stride and making sure Sarah looked fantastic all day.
Selfishly, this wedding was special for me as well. Over the last six years, starting with Allison’s wedding, I’ve been so honoured to photograph the weddings of many of these “gal pals.” I have felt welcomed into their families, and it has been so special to be greeted by name by newlyweds and their parents and friends (and other vendors!) over the years. Sarah is the last of those gals to get married, and saying goodbye was bittersweet. I’m so thankful that she and Brandon gave me the opportunity to document their wedding day.
Sarah and Brandon, I hope you two never stop making each other laugh or looking at each other with such love. You are amazing together, and as was said during your reception, they say that rain on a wedding day makes “the knot” stronger. I hope your future is full of sunshine and happiness.
