Ice Storm Beauty | Ottawa

This past weekend wasn’t great for driving, but was good for outdoor photography! A thin layer of snow and ice coating everything makes for a magical winter backdrop! This weekend I had an engagement shoot schedule with one of my 2015 couples, but unfortunately the groom-to-be drives a snowplow, so we understandably had to reschedule. I have no doubt we’ll find another weekend soon with even better conditions, but in the meantime I couldn’t resist taking my camera out. And of course, I had to photograph my two favourite subjects!

Traipsing Around Toronto

Last week went by in a blur! On Tuesday I left for Toronto for work. I only travel a couple times a year for work, so when I do it’s almost like a little vacation! A hotel room all to myself (even if it’s an airport hotel)? Yes, please! After finishing up on Thursday evening, I was lucky enough to hitch a ride into the big city, which sure beat the public transit marathon I’d been planning. My brother Kurt and his girlfriend Anna offered me a couch to crash on for a few days, and I eagerly stared out the window as the condos got taller and the restaurants more plentiful. By the time we arrived at their apartment off Queen and St. Patrick, I was pumped for my long weekend. And man did it start off right with all-you-can-eat meat at the Copacabana restaurant.

Thanksgiving Weekend 2014

My little brother came home for Thanksgiving! He lives in Toronto, now, and I miss his face. He and his girlfriend Anna got a ride and were able to spend the weekend in Ottawa, so on Saturday Rob and I cajoled Meadow into the car and went to pick them up. My mom joined us, but unfortunately my dad was working, which is really too bad because no one loves the outdoors like he does — except for maybe me! The weather was pretty much perfect all weekend. Rob and I hosted Thanksgiving dinner for 12 (including my cousin who came all the way from Saskatchewan!), and the Butterball was amazing, as per usual (it’s hard to mess up a Butterball!) Unfortunately I was too busy hosting to take any pictures of our guests or even the meal, but I did bring my camera along for the Saturday walk.

Our Neighbourhood Dog Community

Those of you who’ve known me well for more than a few years know that I never use to be a dog person. In fact, my parents are still sort of flabbergasted each time they see me with our lab Meadow. But Rob said from day one in our relationship that he wanted a dog some day, and I figured that was something I could compromise on, and hopefully come to love. Which, thankfully, ended up being the case! We got Meadow as a chunky little ball of fur when she was 9 weeks old, and let’s just say the bonding went well. I was nervous around large dogs until we got her. Now all I can see when a 120lb large breed is running towards me is an overgrown puppy hoping to play!

Nova Scotia Vacation Part 2 | Beaches and Camping

I didn’t take as many photos in the last week of our trip. Mostly because of a lack of space. You see, I forgot one 16GB memory card at work and I only have two. We brought Rob’s laptop and my external drive, plus a friend’s external drive. So, no problem, right? WRONG. Very wrong. Problem #1: Turns out Rob’s laptop only had 8GB of space left on it. Can you believe that? Time to clear out the computer! Problem #2: Turns out my hard drive had even less space on it! How is that possible??! Problem #3: Turns out that my friend’s brand new terabyte hard drive was safety locked for editing (or so I thought). Are you kidding me?!
