Our Prince Edward Island Vacation

Buckle up! This is gonna be a long post since I didn’t want to break our 7-day trip to PEI up into two parts. It’s also full of Meadow because — let’s face it — she was one of the main reasons why we were so excited to come back. The pup was spoiled with tons of trips to the beach. So much to smell! So much to dig! So much sand to roll in! As you’ll see from the photos, the weather wasn’t so great. In fact, some days I wasn’t able to take my camera out at all, and some of these pictures were actually shot in the rain. But moody skies bring out vivid colours (and keep people indoors), so all-in-all I think it was a win!

Nova Scotia Vacation Part 1 | Exploring Malagash and Tatamagouche

I’d been looking forward to our August vacation since Christmas. And I’d been looking forward to going back to the Maritimes for the last seven years. Somehow seven years have gone by since I graduated from UPEI, and May 2007 was the last time I was in the East Coast. I couldn’t wait to get back, and this vacation was all I had hoped it would be: two and a half weeks of salt air, cool breezes, great company, long beaches, and a slower pace of life. We started our trip with a few days visiting Rob’s family in Malagash, Nova Scotia. They live on several acres with access to the beach, and we stayed in a guest cabin (a converted stand-alone garage). The first batch of vacation photos chronicles our first few lazy days there, just poking around the property and exploring nearby Tatamagouche.

August Long Weekend Cousin Reunion

When my grandmother died it brought our family together for the first time in a long time. I saw cousins that I hadn’t seen in almost two decades. The sad event had a happy outcome, and now my brother and I have ten older cousins + their spouses and children to build more memories with. For the last few years now we’ve tried to have a cousin reunion each summer. Not everyone can make it every year, but we do our best. In just a few years we’ve welcomed new partners and new babies, and the family is growing quickly! My cousins are goofy, accomplished, down-to-earth, hardworking, and weird. I’m proud to call them family! And what better way to spend the Civic Holiday weekend than at the cottage with relatives?

The Website Diaries

I am far from technically gifted. For a while I was convinced that computers internally combusted in my presence. I like to think that I’ve gotten past that point (sort of?).

However… I was pretty sure that this new website was going to be the death of me.

I had this idea in my head of what I wanted my website to look like. I can be pretty picky about things like that, and I’m the type of person who doesn’t want to put my name on something unless it’s perfect. Which is probably not great for starting up a business, but that’s another blog post. So there I was with grand illusions of what this website was going to look like.

Winter Walks

The best thing about the weekend for me is being able to go on a leisurely morning walk with Rob and Meadow. Our puppy is a labrador, and doesn’t seem at all phased by cold — even when it’s -35. That being said, if the mercury drops that low we either don’t walk her, or only take her out for 15-20 minutes. She always looks so sad when we turn for home after those shortened romps!

But Saturday morning it was a balmy -12 and the snowstorm hadn’t yet started. At 8am we headed out for our usual walking place. On either side of the train tracks there is an unofficial off-leash area about 2km long.
