Travel Tuesdays | Mount Fuji, Japan

They say that travelling changes a person. The smells, the cultures, the frustrations, the wonder, the longing for home… somehow it comes together to change you. Having probably seen more of the world than the average person, I’m not sure that I can confidently say that’s true. At least, not in an immediate, obvious way. I think that — like every experience in life — travel contributes to shaping who you are. It would stand to reason that the more you see, the more diversely you are shaped. Maybe it’s like gaining wisdom over time. With travel, you gain appreciation over distance. Hiking Mt. Fuji was a dream of Rob’s, who had been a karate-obsessed child enamoured of anything Japanese. And me, well, I’m up for just about anything.

Office Makeover Month

When we lived in Edmonton, we had a three bedroom townhouse, which meant that we each got our own office. Our house now also has three bedrooms, and when we first moved we were a bit undecided about what to do with the smaller two. Nursery? Guest room? One office? Two? At the beginning, we both took a a room as an office – me the larger and Rob the smaller. But then we renovated a small room we have in the basement, and Rob moved down there for his office.

Travel Tuesdays | Drumheller, Canada

The Badlands. How hardcore does that sound? I’ve always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon (and my parents are going there next month… jealous!), but right here in Canada we’ve got a pretty surreal landscape ourselves. Southeastern Alberta is home to “The Badlands” — dry terrain made up up rock and soil that’s been heavily eroded (thank you to Wikipedia for being such a helpful tour guide once again). Possibly the coolest feature of this type of geography are the hoodoos, which are those tall pillars of rock formations you see to the right here.

Travel Tuesdays | Boracay, Philippines

It’s cold pretty well straight across the country. For all those people departing on a beach vacation soon: I’m jealous. There was a time when Rob and I spent the good part of one winter on a beach. In 2010 we had three whole weeks in the Philippines, and two weeks in Cambodia and Vietnam. I had the best tan of my life by March! Our first two and a half weeks in the Philippines were spent in several different places as we dove our way around warm waters and ship wrecks. We finished off our stay in Boracay, where we met up with two Canadian friends who were also living in Korea.

Ice Storm Beauty | Ottawa

This past weekend wasn’t great for driving, but was good for outdoor photography! A thin layer of snow and ice coating everything makes for a magical winter backdrop! This weekend I had an engagement shoot schedule with one of my 2015 couples, but unfortunately the groom-to-be drives a snowplow, so we understandably had to reschedule. I have no doubt we’ll find another weekend soon with even better conditions, but in the meantime I couldn’t resist taking my camera out. And of course, I had to photograph my two favourite subjects!
